About the Artist

I’m Anne Hockenberry, the artist behind Birds and Berry Studio. I've always loved painting and drawing and have filled my home with my work, but it wasn't until a week of snow days during my job as a teacher in 2016 that I opened my Etsy shop on a whim . This whim has slowly grown into a career change from teacher to artist that has been an adventure, challenge, and blessing.
We are welcoming twin baby boys this summer so things might look a little different around here for awhile. Keep up with the new baby fun over on my Instagram. We're excited for this new adventure!
When I was younger, growing up in a small house with four siblings, I used to escape to the attic of our playhouse and stare out the window at the birds that played in the trees. I poured over nature books and read the names and descriptions of birds. My first real artwork at a homeschool art fair was of birds. If you visit my Shop, you’ll see plenty of little feathered friends. So when it came time to name my shop, Birds and Berry seemed to be a perfect combination of my name and interest.
What else do I enjoy? I love to look for beauty in the ordinary. My artwork reflects my love of nature. As a type-A individual, I get a sense of peace and respite through painting.
I’m married to an adventurous mountain man and we love hiking, philosophizing, and watching reruns on Netflix. Since moving to Colorado in 2018, I have had many opportunities to inspired others to embrace their inner artists by taking art classes in and around Montrose.
This online space is a little place for me to share the beauty I find and create, and encourage others with my art. I hope to awaken in you the ability to see beauty in the ordinary. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
